The Electoral College: Its Origins and Its Contemporary Impact

  • Brewster Ladies' Library 1822 Main Street Brewster MA 02631 (map)

This event is presented by the Brewster Ladies Library as part of their Discovery & Enrichment Series.

Historian Dick Stewart will share an overview of the origins of the Electoral College at the Constitutional Convention of 1787, followed by its impact on selected elections, including its decisive role in the election of "minority presidents" in 2000 (George W. Bush) and 2016 (Donald Trump). Does the Electoral College now serve as the basis for a political strategy of winning only those states that can provide an "electoral majority" without a "popular majority"?

Registration required through the Brewster Ladies Library.
